Jannik Sinner sent Italy into deciding doubles against a stubborn Argentine side on Thursday as the defending champion works to repeat at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga.

The world No. 1 who has been unstoppable this season, continued to rampage past opponent as he dismissed  Sebastian Baez 6-2, 6-1 for a 1-1 scoreline after Francisco Cerundolo downed Olympic bronze medalist Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-1 in the opening rubber.

Sinner owns two Grand Slams among his eight titles this season and won the ATP Finals in Turin four days ago.

“It was a must-win match, very different conditions,” the winner said.

“The court is very, very fast and tough to play. I haven’t had so much time to adapt to the conditions, but I’m happy about today.

“The most important thing was to keep Italy alive. Now, doubles, anything can happen.”

The Italian improved his strike rate this season, winning 27 of his past 28 matches and improving to 71-6 since January.

The winner of the tie will bid for the title against Argentina on Saturday after they defeated the US 2-1.
