Swiatek makes another plea for a rational season
Iga Swiatek admitted she’s tired from a long and grinding WTA season. But the world No. 1 has scant hope that tennis bosses will do anything to ever improve the situation.
Swiatek advanced with a ragged win into the US Open second round on Tuesday, then let rip with her opinion.
“Players are aware that this is crazy and the schedule is really tough. There are so many tournaments, but we have so many mandatory tournaments that we literally need to show up and we don’t have time to work on stuff or believe peacefully, because from one tournament we’re going straight to another.”
She added: “We don’t even have time at the end of the year, because literally the first tournament starts on 29th of December. The season is, for sure, too long.
“But I saw from last year that we don’t have much influence on what’s going on; these rules have been changed without us even knowing about them.
“The decisions about mandatory tournaments were shown to us, like, after; we want to at least be in the loop.”
