Team GB take 2-0 lead over Poland in Davis Cup Group 1 tie

Great Britain are edging towards next year’s Davis Cup qualifiers after Cameron Norrie and Arthur Fery won  their rubbers to take  a 2-0 lead over Poland.

Cam  Norrie, world No. 34 survived a fright against world No. 545 Tomasz Berkieta to win the opening World Group 1 match 7-6 (11-9) 6-4 in Gdynia, Poland.

227th  ranked Team mate Fery then fought his way to a 6-4 6-2 victory over Olaf Pieczkowski.

The 23-year-old  Brits was making his Davis Cup debut after British No. 3 Jacob Fearnley pulled out with a rib injury.

Team GB need one more win on Saturday to reach February’s first round to have a tilt at winning the 2026 title.

The world’s top  doubles pair, Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash could wrap up victory on their Davis Cup debut in Saturday’s doubles, ahead of the two reverse singles.

Britain lost 3-2 in Japan in the first round of this year’s Davis Cup,and have to win the tie to maintain their position among the tennis elite.

Losing would mean a play-off  in February 2026 which could mean relegation to World Group 2.

British No. 1 Jack Draper withdrew from the tie because of an arm injury which  forced him to pull out  of his second round US Open match last month.
