Top 2 re-match hopes shattered as Mensik downs Sinner
Jakob Mensik scored the biggest win of his career stunning World No. 2 Jannik Sinner 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-3 in the ATP 500 Doha.
The Czech also ended Sinner’s run of 22 wins in his previous 23 matches.
Remarkably Sinner won more points in the match, 89 to Menšík’s 86 but the Czech secured vital breaks in the first and final games of the third set to wrap up a sensational victory.
It was only two years ago that the 20 year old Czech won his maiden top 5 victory against Andry Rublev and next faces Arthur Fils in the semi final.
