Stefanos Tsitsipas will add some lustre to the pre-US Open ATP event in Winston-Salem after receiving a wild card on Thursday.

The former world No. 4 has suffered a ranking slide down to 30th in the world and has lost his last three matches dating back to Halle in mid-June.

Tsitsipas is playing at the Cincinnati Masters after losing first round matches at Toronto and Wimbledon in recent weeks.

The Greek is by far the most prestigious player to ever compete in the 250 tuneup in North Carolina for the final Grand Slam of the season.

The event was first staged in 2011 with a trophy win by John Isner; former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev lifted the 2018 title in the southern university city.

Two-time Grand Slam runner-up Tsitsipas reached his career best in 2021 but has struggled this season with just one title to hand in Dubai.

He will join a field which includes reigning champion Lorenzo Sonego and 2024 finalist Alex Michelsen .
