Vision of motherhood could cloud Sabalenka future
With a third straight Australian Open atop her current priority list, visions of eventual motherhood could be starting to come onto the horizon for Aryna Sabalenka.
The three-time Grand Slam champion who won Australia and the US Open last season has surely taken notice of the motherhood comeback of Swiss Belinda Bencic as well as other competitors – Naomi Osaka, Eliva Svitolina – who have successfully paused to have a child and then returned to the Tour.
Sabalenka, at age 26, is also apparently considering her own options.
“It’s a tough question,” the winner of 18 itles said..“I hope I’ll have [(a) family. I love kids, I want to have kids, and I don’t want my first kid at 35, you know?”
But planning could be in the works: “I really want to have a kid and then come back.
“And I want my kid to see how hard you should work in life to get things. So yeah, I don’t know, that’s a very deep conversation we are having!”
Sabalenka got her Open off to a fast start, crushing American Sloane Stephens in the first round on opening day.
