Wimbledon 2025 Men’s Day 10
Jannik Sinner bounced back smartly after this week’s elbow injury, with the world No. 1 becoming the first Italian to reach a second Wimbledon semi-final on Wednesday with a 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-4 dismissal of Ben Shelton.
The American 10th seed has not lost 15 straight sets and six consecutive matches against Sinner, who will bid for the final on Friday against Novak Djokovic as the seven-time champion shrugged off a nasty slip on the grass at the end to finish off a 6-7 (6), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 win over Flavio Cobolli.
The Djokovic move into his 14th Wimbledon semi prevented an all-Italian matchup.
Djokovic served for the opening set but was undone by Cobolli, who took an early lead. But the 38-year-old Sern then got to work as he ground down his opponent in three and a quarter hours.
“I slipped but finished the match,” the 24-time Grand Slam champion said. “Those slips happen on the grass.

“You are expected to fall. Mine came at a bad moment, but I found a serve and closed it out.”
Djokovic seemed most pleased with defeating his 23-year-old opponent.
“It means the world to me to still be able at 38 to play in the final stages of Wimbledon.
“It’s great sliding and running on the court with the youngsters – and I have Sinner in the semis. That should be a great match,”
Sinner was in devastating form from the start against Shelton, with the Italian training for only 20 minutes the day before as his elbow injury sustained in a fourth-round win, healed.
He played Shelton with a massive sleeve bandage on the affected right arm.
Sinner dominated with 33 winners and just 17 unforced errors as he thrashed the American.
Shelton double-faulted to bring up a third match point, sending a forehand long to end the one-way match after two and a quarter hours.
“The feelings are different, I’m very happy with today’s performance,” the winner said. “Playing him is so difficult, you don’t have many chances and he serves so well.”
Sinner added as he reached his fourth straight Grand Slam semi-final: “these are the kind of matches that I look for.
“I remember my first time on Centre court, I remember my first semi-final here. It all feels so amazing.
“This is the most special tournament on the calendar. Hopefully my next match will be a good one.”
