Wimbledon 2025 Women’s Day 9
Aryna Sabalenka fought off the diabolical slice’n’dice game of wily German Laura Seigemund, escaping with a narrow 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 trip into the Wimbledon semi-finals on Tuesday.
The top seed and her 37-year-old opponent combined for more than 70 unforced errors in the battle, with the outcome in doubt in a deciding set filled with five breaks of serve.
Sabalenka lost her first set of the tournament to the No. 104 Siegemund, who frustrated the world No. 1 with her elusive game style which relies on top spin and slice.
The seed finally broke through as she nailed the victory after nearly three hours, improving her Grand Slam quarter-final record to 12-1.
Sabalenka will bid for the final against Amanada Anisimova, who defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 7-6 (9) in their quarter-final.

She won in front of family and friends who arrived only hours before the match.
Top seed Sabalenka said she was more than lucky to escape an upset from Siegemund.
“After losing the first set I looked at my box thinking that we needed to book our tickets away from London,” she said.
“Laura pushed me so hard, I need some time to cool down. She played an incredible tournament and match
“I’m super happy with the win, the crowd really helped me to stay in it and keep fighting.”
Sabalenka said her opponent played “a smart game.”
“She makes you work and run for every point. I had to focus on myself and didn’t want her to see that she frustrated me at times.”
Anisimova ahd to fight to close out against the 34-year-old Pavlyuchenkova, sweeping the opening set and polishing her season grass court record to 11-2.
The American winner looked to be cruising up a set and 5-2 before Pavlyuchenkova mounted a comeback, taking the set into a decider.
Anisimova missed out on two match points but completed the job in the tiebreaker on her fourth chance as Pavyluchenkva hit the net with a service return.
“It was such a battle today in the second set,” the winner said. “She played some unreal tennis.
The tiebreak was super stressful, I’m happy I got it done. It’s so special to be in the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time.
“It’s such a ride, I want to enjoy the moment.”
