Zverev ends Tsitsipas season
Alexander Zverev brought the 2024 season of Stefanos Tsitsipas to an early halt on Friday as he eliminated the Greek from any chance at a place in the ATP Finals with a 7-5, 6-4 quarter-final defeat in Paris.
The German winner needed less than an hour and three-quarters to keep Tsitsipas from the eight-man season wrapup which begins a week from Sunday in Turin.
Three spots remain in the field, with Zverev already qualified in third place behind Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz; defeat leaves Tsitsipas stranded on 11th in the points chase.
The upcoming edition will mark a first-time absence for Tsitsipas at the yearender. he won his debut edition in 2019 and has figured in the elite field ever since.
Zverev advanced to the Paris Masters semi-finals with 22 winners dropping just two points on serve in the second set.
He set up three match points with an ace and followed up with a service winner and booking his 20th career semi-final at theMasters 1000 level.
The German winner will be chasing a second Masters title this season after winning Rome. he improved his career record against Tsitsipas to 6-10.
