Zverev exits again to giant-killer Rinderknech

Arthur Rinderknech repeated his upset scenario of Alexander Zverev on Monday, with the Frenchman beating the world No. 3 for the second time in three months.

The 54th-ranked outsider repeated his Wimbledon first-round upset of the German, moving into the Shanghai Masters fourth round with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 fightback.

The win in two and a quarter-hours by the 30-year-old, knocked out the highest remaining player in the draw after second seed Jannik Sinner had to retire injured on Sunday against Tallon Griekspoor.

.World No.1  Carlos Alcaraz made a late pullout before the event, leaving the top-seeded space blank.

The 49th-ranked Rinderknech will next face Jiri Lehecka, who beat Canada’s Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-4.

Briton Cam Norrie went down In 7-6 (4), 6-3 to American teen Learner Tien, the recent Beijing finalist against Sinner. The youngster now tackles former ATP No. 1 Daniil Medvedev, who defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 7-6 (5).

Tien saved  eight of 10 break points against Norrie and broke the Brit four times for the victory.

“I have a lot of confidence right now. I’ve been able to steal some matches where I have been down pretty big and that really feeds my confidence going into these matches,” the winner said.
