Zverev keen to get Boris on board…. but…

Alexander Zverev would love to add Boris Becker to his coaching team – but the German’s British rap sheet might scupper any deal if the former icon is unable to travel to the UK or US for Grand Slams.

World No. 2 Zverev has enjoyed a successful season under the guidance of his father but would be keen to bring Boris on board.

But the 57-year-old’s travel status remains unknown after his release from a London prison after serving more than half a year  in 2022 on tax evasion charges; he was released early in December of that year.

Zverev told Germany’s Tennis Magazin that he needed a coach who could travel unimpeded – a big question mark over Becker.

However, nothing will change on the team prior to the Australian Open next month.

Zverev will be back at the United Cup from late December to defend the German title from last year at the mixed team competition.

“I love Boris and I also believe that he has an incredible knowledge of tennis,” he said.

“But I don’t know how he feels about travelling. That’s the only question mark for him. As soon as he has solved and clarified that, we can talk about it.

“We are always in contact with him and often talk to each other. Now for Australia, it will stay as it is and then I will see.”
