Alexander Zverev did his part for Wednesday German sporting success, posting a win into the Halle quarter-finals shortly after the national football team won another match at the Euros.

The second seed who finished runner-up 10 days ago at Roland Garros defeated Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-6 (5) while Germany defeated Hungary to remain a perfect 2-0 with victory in Stuttgart.

Zverev immediately donned a national football shirt after his win on the grass in one and three-quarter hours; he came from 0-3 down in the second-set tiebreaker after losing only two points on serve in the set.

“I’m happy with the performance, it;’s good to be in the quarter-finals,” the winner said.

“I’m relaxed and enjoying the moment on thee beautiful courts. I hope I can continue building and play even better.

“I’m taking it to the opponents – that’s what I have to do.”
